The Augustana Vikings are proud of the athletes they bring on board every year. To help welcome the rookies joining the team in the coming year, we'll be profiling each of the players from various teams individually over the coming weeks and months. Each player will be asked the same set of questions to help Vikings fans get to know their incoming athletes.

  1. What position do you play?

    I am a setter.
  2. How long have you been playing your sport?

I have been playing volleyball for eight years now. I've played since I was in grade 5 at Bawlf School.

  3. What helps you drive to succeed in your chosen sport?

What helps me drive to succeed in volleyball is that I am a very competitive person and I like to win. I always push to do my best because I don't like losing.
  4.

    1. What program are you taking at Augustana and why?

I plan to complete a Bachelor Of Arts Degree and then an after degree in education.

    2. Why did you choose to attend Augustana?

I chose to attend Augustana because I know people who have attended Augustana and they like the small campus and knowing their professors. I have watched their volleyball team for several years and I want to be a part of that program.
  5. Who is someone who inspires you and why?

My mom inspires me because she is one of the hardest workers I know and is very selfless. She always pushes me to do my best and is always supportive of me.
  6. What is something you enjoy spending time on outside of your sport and school?

Outside of school and volleyball I enjoy spending time outside on my farm playing with my animals.

Brenda Holm was Marler's coach during her high school volleyball career and was pleased to hear that her former player had made the team at Augustana. According to Holm, "volleyball has been a huge part of Riley's life" and she's pleased that "all her hard work and commitment to the sport pay off. It was a pleasure to coach Riley during her high school years and am looking forward to watching her participate at the next level."
