Vikings sweep season opening series

Camrose, AB - Winning in straight sets, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings defeat the Concordia University of Edmonton Thunder 3-0 (25-22, 25-12, 25-22) Saturday night at Augustana Gym.

The season start is picture perfect for the Vikings as sweep the series, winning six straight sets for a 2-0 record. As expected, there is a three-way tie between the Vikings, Lakeland College Rustlers and The King's University Eagles for the top of the division.

In a close opening set the, Thunder battled hard with the home side, but the experience Vikings kept their cool to claim the first set.

Making quick work of the second, the Vikings gave very little breathing room to their guests, and easily put away the second frame 25-12.

In an image just like the first, the Thunder tried to muster up and use any kind of momentum they could to force a fourth set, but it would not be enough to beat the powerhouse across the net, as the Vikings claimed the set and match, 25-22.

Looking ahead, the Thunder will work to earn their first win when they take on the Northwestern Polytechnic Wolves. Meanwhile, the Vikings will battle it out with the Eagles in a home-and-home series, playing at Augustana Gym on Friday night at 6 PM MT.
