Vikings fall to reigning ACAC Bronze medalists

CAMROSE, AB - Dropping their first game of the season, the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings fall to the 2022-23 ACAC Bronze medalists, The King's University Eagles 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-18, 25-21), Friday night at Augustana Gym.

The loss not only ends the Vikings two game-win streak but also allows the Eagles to create a two-point gap between the third-place Vikings and themselves in second place with 6 points. Both teams still trail Lake College Rustlers who remain perfect, having not dropped a set through their opening three games.

Giving the crowd of red, white and black a show, both teams battled back and forth through the opening set, but it would be the Eagles gaining the slight edge down the final stretch, taking the first set lead of the match, 1-0.

Not wanting to dig themselves a hole, the Vikings took control of the second, proving why they were the second-seeded team in the north last season, evening the game at one set a piece, 25-19.

Responding without hesitation, the Eagles had the momentum through the third frame taking it with a score of 25-18 before taking that set momentum into what would be the fourth and final set of the match to win, 25-21.

The Vikings will have a chance to even the weekend home-and-home series tomorrow night in Edmonton as the Eagles host at 6 PM.
