Viking remain perfect on the season after five set battle with Huskies

CAMROSE, AB - Extending their win streak, the University of Alberta - Vikings win a tough battle over the Keyano Huskies 3-0 (23-25, 25-22, 28-26, 27-29, 15-8), Saturday afternoon at Augustana Gym.

The win ties the Vikings for first in the north with the King's Eagles, each with 12 points and perfect records after the first two seasons of play. Meanwhile, the Vikings sit at the bottom of the table and continue their hunt for their first win of the season.

Leading the charge for the home side was Shae Boyes with 16 kills, 10 digs, three aces and one block. Teammate and rookie, Phaedra Bruens had 27 assists in the win.

Across the court, Megan Polant continued to lead the team in kills with 10 on the afternoon, while Erika Box had 21 assists.

After a quick three-set, win for the Vikings the night before, the Huskies came ready to play pushing back at every point with Polant putting down three of her 10 kills to put her side up with a 25-23 win.

However, that one-set lead would not last long as the Vikings would claim set two 25-22, before having to push to the brink to take the third set and the game lead, 28-26.

Not baking down the Huskies capitalized on the Vikings error to hold on the fourth set, 29-27, forcing a fifth and deciding frame.

Getting back to their ways, the Vikings jumped out to a quick lead, doubling their guests in points, with Boyes gathering two aces and four kills to end the game, 15-8.

After an extended break, the Vikings will head south to play the Lethbridge Kodiaks in an ACAC Semifinal rematch on November 4th, while the Huskies host the Concordia Thunder for two games next weekend.
