Vikings upset nationally ranked Clippers in 3-1 win

CAMROSE, Alta. - In a game that saw the University of Alberta - Augustana Vikings taking on the CCAA's 14-ranked team, the Briercrest Clippers, the Vikings rose to the occasion to win 3-1 (25-16, 25-19, 22-25, 25-19), Friday night at Augustana.

The win moves the Vikings back into the win column after suffering their first loss last weekend, while also jumping over the Lakeland Rustlers to take second place in the north. Meanwhile, the Clippers record becomes 6-3 as they look to remain in second place in the south.

Shae Boyes once again led the Vikings in kills, putting down 15 on the night and bringing her season total to 113, four behind conference leader Brooke Risselada from the King's Eagles.

The Vikings were near perfect in the opening set with kill errors, however, the relentless attacks from across the net proved to be difficult as they were forced to fight off 27 total attacks from the Clippers before taking the set, 25-16.

The visitors continued their pursuit of excellence with attack after attack, eventually picking up a win in the third set to extend the match after their hosts took the first two, 25-22

With a set high of 33 attacks and five kills from Boyes, the Vikings took victory in the fourth set, 25-19 to upset the Clippers.

Up next, the Vikings will play host to the Medicine Hat Rattlers on Saturday night, while the Clippers fall half of the season comes to an end before they visit the NAIT Ooks on January 11, 2024.
