Vikings complete weekend sweep of Thunder

CAMROSE, Alta. - The Augustana Vikings women's volleyball team has a great reason to love 2024. On Saturday evening in Camrose the Vikings topped the Concordia Thunder to remain perfect in the New Year winnings three sets to one as their winning streak extends to eight matches.

The Vikings grabbed an early lead and did not look back taking the first set by a final score of 25-15. Veteran Shae Boyes and rookie Taryn Watson led the Vikings charge throughout the match, each ending with 17 kills on the night. The Vikings would take the second set by a score of 25-20.

The Thunder stayed persistent throughout the evening and gained momentum by winning the third set by a final score of 26-24. Concordia's Kara McIntyre was a standout for the Thunder with seven kills as well as two digs to earn player of the game honours.

The Vikings will enjoy a rare Friday evening off in preparation for a Saturday game with the Red Deer Polytechnic Queens at Augustana, February 10th. Concordia will continue to make their playoff push on Friday evening in Medicine Hat where they will take on the Rattlers.
