Annual Pink Bake Sale raises funds for Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation

October is known as Breast Cancer Awareness month and for the past four years at the University of Alberta Augustana Campus, the Women's Volleyball team has made their support for the cause known. In 2013 the Vikings Women's Volleyball team put on the first Breast Cancer Bake Sale. This tradition has continued annually and will continue for years to come. "As a team we want to become active members in our community to show not only our commitment to athletics and school, but to the people who support us," says 4th year Libero, Jennifer Laskosky.

"Raising awareness for breast cancer allows our team to show their support for the thousands of women and families affected by breast cancer each other. As women we are more likely to be diagnosed with breast cancer, so by helping to raise awareness we show our support for those already affected, but also for each other. As a team we strive to represent an ideal; a team made up of friends who become family and who will support each other and their community."

"I think it's important to show the community that the athletes at Augustana want to help in any way we can, even it's just a bake sale." – Rebecca Bates, 3rd year Outside Hitter.

The 4th Annual Women's Volleyball Pink Bake Sale took place on October 12 in the Augustana Campus Forum, with proceeds going to the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, Alberta/NT Chapter.
