Women's Volleyball battling to work harder, dig deeper

The Augustana Women's Volleyball team's season got underway on Friday, October 14th when they took on the Grande Prairie Wolves at home. In an exciting home opener, the Vikings lost the first 16-25, but were determined to work out the nerves and come back in the second set. The team's determination paid off and they won a close second set 26-24. In the third set, the team fell into a bit of a slump at lost 15-25. Not willing to quite the team fought back again and won the fourth set 25-20. In the fifth set, the Vikings were unable to find their rhythm and lost the match 7-15.

On Saturday, the Vikings struggled to find their rhythm and lost in three sets; 19-25, 19-25, and 18-25. The team was able to build off of the opening weekend and would prepare for their upcoming games.

On October 21st, the team travelled to Fort McMurray to take on the Keyano Huskies. Again the Vikings fought hard, but lost the first set 23-25. Unwilling to give up the Vikings won the second set 25-21, but came up short in the third set losing 22-25. The team fought their way to a fifth set by winning the fourth 25-22. However, the Vikings were unable to finish and lost the match 10-15.

On Saturday October 22nd, the Vikings struggled in the first two sets losing 21-25 and 20-25. The team bounced back in the third and won 25-23. Unfortunately, the team was unable to carry their momentum into the fourth set and lost the match 18-25.

On October 28th, the Vikings travelled to Edmonton to take on the King's Eagles. The Vikings fought hard, but weren't able to gain momentum or find their rhythm. The Vikings lost in three 17-25, 16-26, and 15-25.

On October 29th, the Vikings took on the Eagles at home hoping for a better outcome. The first two sets saw the Vikings struggle to get a break and they lost 12-25 and 16-25. In the third set, the Vikings dug deep and pushed back winning the third set 25-16. Unfortunately, the team was unable to carry the momentum into the fourth set and lost 14-25.

The Women's team has suffered multiple injuries that has rattled the team and caused them to make some changes. However, the Vikings are taking the opening weekends of the season in stride and are hard at work to turn their season around. The team has really come together the last few weeks to work harder and dig deeper. The Women's Volleyball team would like to thank their fans for their continued support!
