Alcorn posts 2nd place ACAC finish, personal best record

Augustana took a small but determined crew to Grande Prairie for the third ACAC Grand Prix. After an early wake up call and a long six hour drive the team arrived at the sunny, snow free race course ready to tackle the variable grassy terrain.

Catherine Alcorn was the sole ladies Viking taking on the 6km race at 1:30 pm. With a season's personal record Alcorn managed to finish 2nd among ACAC runners with a time of 24:53.

The Viking men tackled the 8km course at 2:45. Noah Day led the Vikings with an extremely strong performance, finishing in 30:38. Nils Asfeldt followed, having a stellar first race of the season. Next Vikings coach Gerhard Lotz showed his athletes how to pace a racer perfectly and run a smart race. Rounding out the men's strong showing was Jackson Sweder, who smashed his season's best by over two minutes.

Next week the Vikings will be taking on the fourth Grand Prix in Vermilion, hosted by Lakeland College.

Don't forget to mark your calendars for October 13 when Augustana hosts the fifth Grand Prix and first annual (After) Turkey Trot!
